I am a queer of colour scholar and artist deeply committed to Kapwa – a fundamental Indigenous Pilipino value of deep connection with and commitment to community. I am grateful to have grown up on the unceded and sacred lands of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) peoples and now live on the land of the Sc̓əwaθən məsteyəxʷ (Tsawwassen) First Nation.
I am a researcher with the Anew Research Collaborative and an associate faculty with the School of Leadership Studies at Royal Roads University. I am also a PhD Candidate at OISE and member of the Tkaronto CIRCLE Lab at the University of Toronto. I have experience with participatory, decolonizing, arts-based, and visual research and move away from telling damage-centered narratives about Black, Indigenous, and communities of colour. In 2021, I was the recipient of the President’s Award for Advancing Anti-Racism and Inclusive Excellence from the University of British Columbia. I have since found myself critically thinking of how we might more meaningfully engage racialized young adults with cancer to better understand and reshape cancer care in the country and beyond.
Most importantly, I am mama to Waniska and spend my time in joy and play.
