Transforming Rural and Remote AYA Cancer Care

Transforming Rural and Remote AYA Cancer Care

“I know first-hand-the challenges of navigating cancer as an AYA far from a major centre.”

— Nivan, Prince Rupert

AYAs who live in rural and remote communities face even greater challenges than those living in urban centres including poorer access to cancer care services, delayed diagnoses leading to advanced disease, increased costs, fewer supportive care options and so on. Anew is partnering with InspireHealth Supportive Cancer Care to fully explore these distinct needs with rural and remote AYAs and care providers focussing initially on communities in the Northern, Central Interior and Vancouver Island regions of BC including identifying tangible actions to improve care. The learnings will be key to development of the AYA Cancer Care and Support Program plan now underway.

Geography adds layers of isolation, financial strain and logistical barriers making the burden of cancer heavier
